Some insights from Bill looking back at Japanese recruitment market trends of 2024.
What will be important for recruiting top talent in 2025?

The current hiring market in Japan is very active, and hiring demand is expected to be higher in 2025 than in 2024.

Hiring for all professional and experienced positions is active, and competition is quite high, especially for the best candidates, with some job seekers conducting interviews with other companies at the same time. In particular, the number of people under the age of 40 with English language skills that companies want to hire is decreasing, and people in their 30s with English language skills are particularly scarce. The number of people in the Japanese workforce with business-level English skills is small to begin with, and this trend is not likely to change in the future.

One of the most prominent points that last year’s job seekers were concerned about when changing jobs was the future stability of the company they were changing jobs with, including the possibility of management integration through M&A or other means. In recent years, management integration through M&A has been active both in Japan and overseas, and it is not unusual for any company to be acquired by a large company at any time. Job changers also tended to place importance on the future stability of the company they are changing jobs with, in other words, whether the working environment and working conditions that they had expected will be maintained after their new job. It is natural for anyone to be cautious about changes in the work environment after changing jobs, and to be concerned about being laid off as a result of management integration or changes in the work environment or job responsibilities as soon as they join a new company.

There are many options for talented people to change jobs, they tend to expect favorable conditions (better salary, stock options, RSUs, etc.) when they change jobs. In addition, if a candidate is simultaneously interviewing at other companies, the faster a company makes an offer, the easier it is to hire the candidate. However, if a company’s hiring decision process is slow, it may be judged that “there is no sense of speed in the company’s internal work, and the company does not really want to hire me,” and the company may miss the opportunity. Therefore, it can be said that “proceeding with the hiring process as quickly as possible” is an indispensable element in hiring excellent human resources.

RYZE specializes in searching for excellent human resources through the headhunting method, rather than through job advertisements or other application or registration methods. As a recruitment agency that provides quality services to both companies and job seekers, we will continue our efforts this year to support the recruitment of rare talents with high layers of talent, technology, and English language skills.
